Associate: Investments and Portfolio

Summary:
Upaya is seeking a full-time Associate to join its Investment and Portfolio team in Bangalore, India. This role will be central to sourcing, evaluating, investing and growing impact-first investments in India. The candidate will work closely with the investment team and portfolio companies to ensure alignment with Upaya’s goals of financial sustainability and lasting social impact. This role requires strong financial acumen, analytical thinking, and a passion for supporting early-stage entrepreneurs.
Responsibilities:
Identify promising early-stage enterprises aligned with Upaya’s mission through proactive sourcing, networking, and partnerships.
Conduct financial, operational, and impact due diligence, including deep dives into market, product, team, and scalability.
Design key indicators that best capture the financial and social performance of Upaya's portfolio, conduct real-time analysis, and assist with visualization and external reporting when needed.
Review financial statements of portfolio partners and report key performance metrics and trends across categories.
Experience, Qualifications & Skills:
Qualification:
Master's degree preferred: An MBA, Master's in Finance or Accounting, or another relevant postgraduate degree in finance is preferred but not required. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in financial statement analysis, financial modelling, and other core financial analysis skills.
Skills & Experience:
4-8 years of post-qualification work experience as a finance professional in an investment fund / investment banking / financing company / consulting. Impact investing experience will be an advantage
Experience of analysing companies and business models is required
Excellent analytical and organization skills
Competence in MS Office is required with a high level of proficiency in MS Excel; experience with Google Sheets is a plus
Strong relationship building skills, especially with regards to working closely with early-stage entrepreneurs
Strong written and verbal communication (fluency required in English and fluency in other languages is a plus)
Comfortable with travel to partner locations especially far-away places like north-eastern states of India and impoverished communities
Strong work ethic and steadfast commitment to Upaya's values
