Richard Wardell

Richard Wardell retired in 2022 after a career in commercial banking, strategic and operational consulting, and financial management in the international development and global health sectors.

After working for a short period in microwave communications research, Richard started his finance-focused career with Lloyds Bank, a major UK-based international financial institution. Moving to the US, he spent several years in strategic and operational consulting, primarily with the Boston Consulting Group and then internally within Washington Mutual before its acquisition by Chase Bank.

Transitioning into the international development sector, Richard spent 3 years at Unitus, managing the team providing advisory services to microfinance institutions globally, with a strong focus on India. He then took executive-level finance and operations roles in global non-profit institutions in the fields of land rights, malaria eradication, and water, sanitation and hygiene. During this period, he also served on the board of Navos, a Seattle-based leader in behavioral health care for the under-served.

Richard holds an MBA with High Honors in Finance and International Business from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and a BSc with Honors in Physics and Electronics from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.
